Game UX Pillars
This is an ‘always on’ kids game where teams go head-to-head in competitions inspired by the greatest moments in Star Wars history. The game will always consider features & experience to be primarily about: Belonging, Competition, Skilled play, My Star Wars story and Lego humor.
About the Game design
Since this concept was developed in 2018, at that time Fortnite was in it’s peak in popularity. Disney wanted to compete in the market with something similar, but using their great IP, and also collaborating with folks at the LEGO Group to develop physical products that could visually enhance the experience for players. This started out with a team of about 10 people to develop the concept and iterate by playing the game frequently using the Unity game engine. If the project was greenlit, then the team would expand to develop the branding, graphics and game design. My contributions:
The team worked toward a complete playable vertical slice of the experience for the purpose of presenting to Disney execs and the LEGO Group leadership team
Worked closely with a game designer to collaborate on the player’s journey of leveling up and upgrading their weapons/base/character
Met with the LEGO Group designers to discuss how we could collaborate. We brainstormed ideas at a UX workshop
Mapped out goals & first versions of different facets of the UX. Examples: player chat & communication, battle arena UI, states of player’s health, upgrades, etc
Helped project management with task prioritization amongst cross-functional team
Implemented/built all UI interfaces in Unity (prefabs and nested components)
